Dan Murphy, former Program Director at the Yale Center Beijing, appointed new Executive Director of Harvard’s Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies and Harvard China Fund.

The Fairbank Center and Harvard China Fund are pleased to announce the appointment of Dan Murphy as our new Executive Director.

Dan joins the Fairbank Center and Harvard China Fund from the Yale Center Beijing, where as the inaugural program director he developed China-related programs in Beijing and New Haven.

From 2008 to 2014, Dan worked at the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations (NCUSCR) in New York. His major responsibility was the Public Intellectuals Program (PIP), a project that connects America’s next generation of leading China scholars with policymakers and the media, as well as with each other. Notable PIP alumni include the Fairbank Center’s Director Michael Szonyi, Associates Sheena Chestnut GreitensAndrew Erickson, and Sabina Knight, and Alumni Martin Dimitrov, Denise Ho, and Shellen Wu.

As Director of Special Initiatives Dan also conceived of and directed a variety of multi-year two way exchanges, led senior American Congressional staff on study visits to China, and spearheaded successful grant initiatives that were funded by the State Department and private foundations.

Dan received a scholarship to pursue graduate studies at the Johns Hopkins University-Nanjing University Center for Chinese and American Studies, where he studied politics. He also holds an M.A. in Chinese Studies from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and a B.A. in English and Chinese Language and Literature from Connecticut College. In 2001, he was a Thomas J. Watson Fellow.

慕浩然 (Dan Murphy),曾任耶鲁北京中心项目主任,将担任哈佛大学费正清中国研究中心与哈佛中国基金执行董事一职。

费正清中国研究中心与哈佛中国基金宣布任命慕浩然(Dan Murphy)为我们的新任执行董事。

在加入费正清中心与哈佛中国基金之前,慕浩然曾任耶鲁北京中心的首位项目总监,负责管理耶鲁大学在中美两国的各种中国相关项目。

从2008到2014年, 慕浩然在纽约的美中关系全国委员会工作,主要负责管理 “公共知识分子项目”。此项目不仅为美国年青一代中国问题专家建立互相交流的渠道,而且将这些学者与政策制定者和媒体联系起来。曾参与公共知识分子项目的知名学者包括费正清中心主任宋怡明 (Michael Szonyi),费正清中心的研究员艾立信 (Andrew Erickson), 桑禀华 (Sabina Knight) 和 Sheena Chestnut Greitens,哈佛校友 Martin Dimitrov, Denise Ho 和 Shellen Wu.

在美中关系全国委员会任职期间, 慕浩然曾率领美国国会高级官员代表团访华考察,督导了多个项目,并成功设立由美国国务院和私人基金会资助的项目资金。

慕浩然曾获奖学金赴约翰霍普金斯-南京大学中美研究中心攻读政治学研究生。此外,他还拥有马萨诸塞大学阿默斯特分校中国研究硕士学位,康涅狄克大学英文系和中文文学系学士学位。在2001年,他被选为Thomas J. Watson研究员
